MATTHIAS JANN
Matthias Jann was born in 1971 in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg and studied composition and music theory
at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" and trombone at the Hochschule
der Künste. Amoung his accolades were several prizes for composition and
interpretation at the Hanns Eisler Competition in Berlin, a fellowship of the Kranichstein Prize
in Darmstadt and a conducting stipend from the German Music Council. He has recieved composing
commissions for pieces at the Klangwerkstatt Kreuzberg («fil rouge», 2004), the
Musikakademie Rheinsberg («Von Wolfgang für Claire», 2005), the caroussel-Theater
Berlin and the Festival Randspiele («exode», 2008), amoung others. Matthias is the
artistic director and conductor of Jericho-Brass Berlin, trombone player of the ensemble European
Music Project (EMP) Ulm and of Ensemble Courage Dresden. He is also frequent guest trombonist at the
Kammerensemble für Neue Musik Berlin, ensemble mosaik Berlin and RSBrass, the brass ensemble of
the Radio-Symphony Orchestra Berlin. Since 1997 Matthias Jann teaches music theory and ear training
at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler".
