ALEXANDRE BABEL
The versatile Swiss percussionist Alexandre Babel works in the fields of modern classical
and new music repertoire as well as improvised and experimental music.
He completed a degree in Classical Percussion with honors at the Geneva "Haute Ecole de
Musique", and studied with distinguished artists from around the world. He was awarded the
prestigious Leenaards cultural prize in 2006, and grants from the Friedl Wald foundation and the
André-François Marescotti foundation.
Alexandre is principal percussionist at the KNM-Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin. He also performs
as a guest with the Ensemble MusikFabrik, Berliner Ensemble, Solistenensemble Kaleidoscop, and has
collaborated with such composers as Enno Poppe, Toshio Hosokawa, Dmitri Kourliandski and Lucia Roncetti.
In 2002 he created the drumset duo Buttercup Metal Polish with Nicolas J. Field, with whom he has
collaborated with Keiji Haino, Otomo Yoshihide and Anthony Pateras among others.
