FALK MAERTENS
Falk Maertens, principal trumpeter of the "Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester" (DSO,
formerly RIAS Sinfonie-Orchester) in Berlin is internationally recognized as a soloist
and orchestra trumpeter who sets standards for excellence in trumpet playing.
He has won many prizes at many national and international competitions including the
first prize at the prestigious American "Ellsworth Smith" competition in 1994. Falk gave his
solo debut concerts in New York with the Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen at Carnegie Hall and in Berlin at
the Philharmonie with the "Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester". He has also given acclaimed solo
performances in Europe, the United States and Russia with orchestras such as the Radio Philharmonic
Orchestra Hannover of the NDR and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. As principal trumpeter of
the DSO Falk's professional life is centered in Berlin. He also tours as a soloist and chamber
musician, and since 2005 has been principal trumpeter of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the
leadership of Claudio Abbado and Daniel Harding.
